How to Use Dreambox 500 Without a PC

The Dreambox 500 is a Linux-based, set-top cable and satellite television receiver used to pick up and interpret the signals sent from television service providers to show them on a connected display. Since operation of the Dreambox 500 does not require a PC of any sort, the initial setup and function of the Dreambox 500 requires only a few audio/video cables, Internet access and active service with your local cable or satellite provider.

Connecting Your Dreambox 500

1 Connect the Dreambox 500 to a TV using either a set of RCA cables or a single coaxial cable, matching the Out connection points on the back of the Dreambox 500 to the appropriate In connection points on the back of the TV set (for example, the red/yellow/white RCA connectors connect to your Dreambox 500's Out connectors and your TV's In connectors).

Connect the Dreambox 500 to the home cable line using a coaxial cable. The coaxial cable screws into the Dreambox 500's coaxial input, with the other end of the line connecting to the cable jack on the wall.

Connect an Ethernet cable from the modem or router to the LAN port on the back of the Dreambox 500.

Plug the Dreambox 500's power supply into the power supply connector port on the backside of the Dreambox 500. Plug the other end of the power supply into a nearby wall outlet.

Open the battery panel on the bottom side of the Dreambox 500 remote control and insert two AA batteries, making sure to align the "+" and "-" ends with the markings inside the remote. Close the battery panel door.

Initial Setup and Using Dreambox 500

Power on the Dreambox 500 by pressing the "Power" button on the remote.

Power on the TV and select the corresponding input to which the Dreambox 500 is connected by pressing the "Input" or "Source" button on the TV until you see the Dreambox 500's on-screen display.

Select the current TV region, language and time zone to complete the initial setup if this is the first time using the Dreambox 500.

Use the buttons on the Dreambox 500 remote control to access different functions and control the Dreambox 500. Press the "Menu" button to access the Dreambox 500's main menu and the "TV" button or "Radio" button to activate TV and Radio mode respectively. The "Volume," "Channel" and "Numeric" buttons work the same as they do on any other TV remote.
